Anthony Karen: KKK wedding photo

Describing:

A. This was taken in the deep woods of Louisiana.
B. These are members of the KKK and they are getting married in a KKK ceremony.
C. The photo is black and white with lines from the trees and textures from the vegetation.

Analyzing:

A. The stuff that draws our attention is that the bride is in all white, and the groom has a bright white cross on his mask that draws you in. You can tell from this photo that it is placed in the woods for seclusion, because they are apart of the KKK.
B. They are wearing a traditional KKK gowns and caps/veils from ceremonies. The couple seems like they are in their late 20's to early 30's. The relationship between these two people are that they are newly weds or getting married soon. There are no facial expressions in the picture due to the mask/veil, but their body language is very stiff towards one another spite the fact that are getting married.
C. The photo seems to be taken during late afternoon. The mood of the picture seems gloom spite the fact it day of celebration. The woods provide the seclusion of the couple from everyone else.

Interpreting:

A. This is a picture of a couple about to get married or just married. He is saying that they prefer to so secluded from the rest of society that they even hold their own weddings. He took this picture at this time because he could capture the couple before/after the wedding. Also he chose this angle because it would a traditional wedding picture.
B. This picture only focuses on the couple only, so it leaves out the rest of the wedding party.

Evaluating:

A. For the overall work we liked it, but the subject is interesting but uneasy due to the history of the KKK. It was important to show that the KKK is still around and that they maintain a deep culture among themselves. The knowledge we have gained is that they are private group (the vagueness of the location and no pictures of the ceremony) and that even they live in small personal community.
