Corey Cox critiquing Bailey Hanna

I love the texture collage over the color one much more. Especially the bark picture. Also how there is different textures too. You use smooth, course and rough very nicely. Overall the photos complement each other very well since they deal with nature and could be found close to each other. It looks like you didn't have to do a lot of changes to these photos either. Maybe a brightness/contrast, levels and hue and saturation. The only picture I would change out of these is the pine tree branch and replace it with DSC_0305 (the ones that are standing upright). But I would need to see it in color to make a final choice on it. But overall very good job on the texture

For the color color collage it is not as strong as the texture. The photo I love that you used was the sign in the fireplace. I love how it just pops out with the yellow against the grayish color of the fireplace. Seeing the contact sheet there is nothing that I would change on this collage. The photos are not to complementary except in the fact they focus on yellow. But great job with all the adjustments, this too doesn't seem like it took many.

After reading the interview of the photographer and seeing why this was an important photo, I believe I could take this photo. It does show that war does not just affect the soldiers or the government but it affects everyone. It was quite calming to see that they cut his handcuffs so he could embrace his child who was terrified. I also can picture the man's face under the hood to be almost crying or showing fear. I have lived a solider's life deployed before and it is never easy seeing stuff happen, but we know our goal and we try our hardest to reach it.

Color and Texture

ICCA 10.22.12

This pictures is a very sad scene. It is a quite powerful pose for the young child. The buzzard/vulture also gives a lot of meaning for the pic. It shows that people are starving in other countries. But the buzzard/vulture gives that creepy feeling that it is waiting for the child to die to feed. The colors in the photo are very nice and rich. It also draws your eyes back and forth between the bird and the child.

ICCA 8.17.12

This photo seems like a serious photo by the way the women's facial expression is. It has very contrast from lights to shadows around her face. The portrait draws your attention right to her eyes. It helps that the background is blurred slightly so that she stands out more.

ICCA 10.10.12

This portrait has a gross factor to it. Her nose looks like it has been burned off. The colors are nice and vivid and out very well with the tannish background, also it complements her skin tone. The lighting is well done to capture all the elements and textures of the subject.

This is a sad looking photo. You have a bunch of graves dug out with one filled in. Then there is a dog that looks sad next to the filled grave. The photo has great use of lines with the grave holes and the side walls of the graves themselves. The shot was taken at a great angle to show the amount of the graves while still capturing the one filled grave with the cross and the dog next to it.

Anthony Karen: KKK wedding photo

Describing:

A. This was taken in the deep woods of Louisiana.
B. These are members of the KKK and they are getting married in a KKK ceremony.
C. The photo is black and white with lines from the trees and textures from the vegetation.

Analyzing:

A. The stuff that draws our attention is that the bride is in all white, and the groom has a bright white cross on his mask that draws you in. You can tell from this photo that it is placed in the woods for seclusion, because they are apart of the KKK.
B. They are wearing a traditional KKK gowns and caps/veils from ceremonies. The couple seems like they are in their late 20's to early 30's. The relationship between these two people are that they are newly weds or getting married soon. There are no facial expressions in the picture due to the mask/veil, but their body language is very stiff towards one another spite the fact that are getting married.
C. The photo seems to be taken during late afternoon. The mood of the picture seems gloom spite the fact it day of celebration. The woods provide the seclusion of the couple from everyone else.

Interpreting:

A. This is a picture of a couple about to get married or just married. He is saying that they prefer to so secluded from the rest of society that they even hold their own weddings. He took this picture at this time because he could capture the couple before/after the wedding. Also he chose this angle because it would a traditional wedding picture.
B. This picture only focuses on the couple only, so it leaves out the rest of the wedding party.

Evaluating:

A. For the overall work we liked it, but the subject is interesting but uneasy due to the history of the KKK. It was important to show that the KKK is still around and that they maintain a deep culture among themselves. The knowledge we have gained is that they are private group (the vagueness of the location and no pictures of the ceremony) and that even they live in small personal community.
